Trained as an applied meteorologist, Dr Lu has nearly 30 years of experience in the fields of climate science, climate risk assessment and adaptation. Her work spans science, policy and practices, across a wide spectrum of institutional settings, from academia, United Nations agencies, multilateral development banks and the private sector. Dr Lu is a Senior Technical Advisor at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (headquartered in Beijing) and a visiting academic at the University of Oxford.

As climate impacts accelerate, investing in climate adaptation and resilience is no longer optional; it is an urgent economic imperative to safeguard global communities and development. However, scaling up adaptation finance remains severely constrained by systemic challenges, including, among others, fragmented climate risk data, and the lack of standardized metrics to quantify the financial returns of resilience. Physical climate risk analytics bridge this critical gap by translating complex, forward-looking climate science into actionable financial insights. In this connection, examples illustrating the role climate risk analytics plays in unlocking capital for climate-resilient development will be highlighted, and key priorities in advancing physical climate risk analytics discussed.
